Genus description from Renaud-Mornant 1982: “Florarctinae à tête étroite : large implantation des clavas occupant des bords latéraux réduits. Griffes des doigts externes avec encoche distale sur la face interne. Expansion aliforme caudale seule présente.”

(Translation from Fontoura et al. 2017: “Florarctinae with narrow head. Wide implantation of the primary clavae occupying the reduced lateral edges of the head. Claws of external digits with an internal distal notch. Only the caudal aliform expansion is present.”)

Genus description from Hansen & Kristensen 2021: “A genus of Florarctinae with narrow head. Wide implementation of the primary clavae occupying the lateral edge of the head. Large, rigid and backwards bending primary clavae (shared with Higginsarctus gen. nov.) supported by strong internal cuticular structures at their bases. Frontal and caudal ala (without procuticular support) present in females. Frontal ala absent in males. Claws of external digits with internal distal notch.”

Be careful! There can be great variability within a population, with individuals (especially juveniles) lacking some appendages. When in doubt, focus on other characters first!

Pseudosegmental plate between last medial plate & terminal plate?

Note on 2nd image, what you see before the terminal plate is either no plate, or a full-width medial plate; don’t confuse the latter with a pseudosegmental plate!
Also, sometimes the pseudosegmental plate is paired, like segmental plates II & III. It’s still pseudosegmental!
