Genus description from Deboutteville & Renaud-Mornant 1965: “Halechiniscidé dont le corps porte de larges expansions aliformes lobées, latérales et postérieures, recouvrant plus ou moins les pattes. Pattes rétractiles portant quatre doigts pouvus de griffes bifides et d’éperons de soutien. L’appartenance familiale confirme la totalité des caractères de la famille.”
Genus description from de Zio Grimaldi et al. 1999: “Florarctinae with three or five lateral and caudal wide aliform lobate expansions which cover the legs more or less completely. Sometimes a short frontal ala is present. Alae present in all the developmental stages with the exception of the first-stage larva which is of the Halechiniscus type. Caudal ala which can be supported by spiky expansions. Procuticular processes (caestus) frequently present inside the alae. External digiti shorter than the internal ones, with claws ending with an articulate portion (avicularia) and hook-shaped pedunculi inside the bases. Internal digiti ending with simple claws with short dorsal spurs.”
