Genus description from Møbjerg et al. 2016: “Medium-sized to very large Echiniscoididae. The cuticle with a warty sculpture, arranged in transverse rows. Each wart is finely punctuated by the pillars inside the epicuticle. Stylets and buccal canal are relatively long. Stylet supports are not observable by light microscopy. Calcium carbonate incrustations in placoids and anterior part of buccal canal. Cirrus A and cirrus E are long with a spiral sculpture at the basis. The primary clavae comprise ovoid papillae with a pointed tip (similar to the papillae of the fourth leg pair). The secondary clava is a large dome attached directly on the head. Internal and external cirri with swollen ring-shaped bases. Leg appendages are present on all legs. A small papilla with a tiny spine is present on leg I, a thin spiny sensory seta on leg II, a large seta on leg III with a spiral sculpture at the base, and an ovoid papilla with a tiny spine on leg IV. The first instar juveniles (larvae) with four claws and adult specimens always with six claws on each leg (isonych claws). Sexual dimorphism is present.”
